Educators are a vital link between students and their parents. When there is a student with an exceptionality in the classroom, parents will often rely on teachers for support. It is important that teachers are aware of resources that can help parents build a support system outside the school setting. Parents of exceptional children want more information about available programs and services. Here is a list of resources that teachers can refer to themselves or direct parents towards. KIDS IN THE KNOW
The Canadian Centre for Child Protection has developed a national safety program called Kids in the Know. The site has information for parents on how to talk to their children about personal safety beginning at four years of age as well as resources for teachers.

FRASER VALLEY DOWN SYNDROME SOCIETY (FVDSS)
This volunteer run society is available to all individuals with Down syndrome and their families living between Aldergrove and Hope. There is support for new parents, a lending library, monthly meetings, annual awareness walks, and family activities throughout the year. Meetings occur on the second Thursday of each month between September and June. For more information, please call Sylvie at 604.853.5563 or Jodie at 604.755.0769.
